Environmental Health and Safety is sponsoring a discounted hazardous materials/waste disposal event, please see the attached flyer.  This event will take place on the Engineering Tower loading dock on April 9th, 2015 from 9:00am to 12:00pm

NOTE: Staff will be doing inventory of the chemicals in the INRF/BION. Any non-active or unlabeled chemicals will be disposed of. Please come by the lab ASAP to make sure that your chemicals are labeled correctly with a current date.

We have noticed that the MSDS PDFs are not opening on our site and we are currently working to fix the problem. In the meantime, hard copies are available in the INRF/BION gowning rooms or you can look them up online. We will post when they are back up.

Please clearly write, in Sharpie, “Empty” on the bottles before putting them away to be disposed of. This will help staff recognize what they would need replace.

The INRF will be closed temporarily due to a smell coming from one of the oven/furnace. Once clear we will open the lab back up.

Yesterday we had an incident in the BION due to someone placing a nylon wafer cassette in the dehydration oven which set off a smoke detector and caused the fire department to respond.
Users need to pay close attention when placing objects in or on top of the hot plates and ovens. If you have any questions please contact staff. The oven has been tagged out until it can be cleaned.

Facilities will be replacing the UPS on the Siemens panel on the roof starting around 7:30 – 8 am. This panel controls the make-up air handlers and the exhaust fans. This should take no longer than 2hrs. If you are in during this time just be cautious.

As announced during our Annual Safety Meeting, there is now an updated Policy Compliance Agreement that must be signed by all cleanroom users.

The signed agreement is due by January 2, 2015.

We will be hosting our Annual Safety Meeting in collaboration with EH&S and the Fire Marshall. If you cannot attend, please email inrf.uci.edu and we will schedule a separate time for you to come in.

*This meeting is mandatory and those absent will no longer be able to access the cleanroom*

There was some flooding in the BION this morning due to a pipe fitting breaking in the ceiling. It was contained to the back hallway area located past the double doors in back of the cleanroom and none of the lab rooms were effected. The cleanroom will remain open but please take note that facilities will be back there cleaning throughout the day. They have been instructed to stay in the back hallway area but might have to step in the main hallway occasionally. Carry on with your projects at your own risk.
