Integrated Nanosystems Research Facility

Due to a flood in the cleanroom the INRF will be closed for the remainder of the day for cleanup. The BION will remain open.

The BION lab will be closed this Saturday (11/21) and Sunday (11/22) due to work being performed by Facilities/Contractors. It will reopen Monday (11/23).

Earthquake Drill Tomorrow!

The INRF will participate in the Great California Shakeout tomorrow at 10:15 AM. This is good practice for users to go through emergency shut down for equipment and safety procedures during an Earthquake. Don’t forget to practice the following tomorrow:

  1. Simulated Equipment Emergency Shutdown/ Safe chemical handling (Review Equipment Emergency Shutdown Procedures)
  2. Exit the facility safely (since this is a drill you may take off your gown)
  3. Find a good location to drop, cover and hold on (once out of the cleanroom)
  4. Meet at the Evacuation Assembly Point (outside between the two Engineering Gateway buildings)

Good Luck!

Message from Calit2:

“Due to the current Calit2 construction project, access to Calit2 clean room load-in entry 1451 will be limited. Temporary walled door structures will be built at both ends of the Calit2 east corridor in order to better control the construction zone – (see below). All access to the 1451 clean room load-in door will need to be coordinated through Gregory Gallardo (Ext 4-4488) in advance until further notice and/or at least through February 2016. This will also temporarily change the emergency exiting procedure for clean room bays facing the south corridor. The Fire Marshall will be posting all appropriate signage.”

In room 2320 the second bench from the door we had an acid spill in the storage area. The container was not in double containment, not properly labeled and the only identification marks were “XV2”. Using ph paper the acid level was 1 – 0. We believe the material was nano strip.

THE INRF IS NOT APPROVED FOR CORROSIVE ACID MATERIALS, ONLY SOLVENTS AND PHOTO RESIST

Facilities is working on getting the ventilation issues worked out but we still have no time frame as to when this will be resolved.

The HF bench in BION did not pass the annual inspection and will be down until we get it back to spec. The Inorganic bench has a leaky drain which will need to be repaired. We will make a post once the benches are available again.

The inorganic room will be down due to an acid spill under the bench. Once cleaned we will make a post and open up the room again

 Calit2 Community,

It has been brought to my attention that a group of students has been propping open the Calit2 main atrium entrance doors after-hours and using the patio as a dance rehearsal space. The door has been found propped open all night through to the morning. Use of the Calit2 patio for any unauthorized activity is strictly prohibited. UCIPD has been notified and will be patrolling the area. If you find any object propping open the Calit2 main lobby atrium door or any other secure area door after-hours, please remove the object and feel free to notify me either by email or calling my extension 824-4488.

Thanks for your assistance.

Director of Facilities, Calit2
