Integrated Nanosystems Research Facility

The INRF Lab will be closed for the remainder of today and tomorrow due to facilities/contractor work. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Thanks,
INRF Staff

Contractors will begin working on the BiON ventilation system beginning this Friday 5/24/13 at 8:00AM and are scheduled to complete the work next Friday, 5/31/13.

The sequence of rooms covered will be as follows:

  • 1432 (Friday, 5/24)
  • 1431 (TBD)
  • 1402 (TBD)
  • 1412 (TBD)
  • 1422 (TBD)
  • 1421 (TBD)
  • 1411 (TBD)

We have been informed that each room will only take a couple of hours to complete. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

The contractors will also be taking a look at the INRF ventilation system today! We are hopeful that a temporary solution will be possible so the benches will be operational again soon.

Thanks,
INRF Staff

Good morning everyone,
Here is an update on the exhaust issue for the Laminar Flow chemical benches.

I met with facilities today and we went up above the ceiling to look at the ventilation exhaust system so they can get a better understanding of what needs to be done.
They are planning on getting an engineering firm under contract to evaluate our system. I also had a discussion with EH&S today. I am providing them with the mfg. and some information on our existing Laminar flow chemical wet benches. EH&S will then arrange a meeting with TSS this week to consult with them to resolve the exhaust issue.

Until further notice EH&S advises we do not do any processing on our benches in the INRF. In the meantime we can perform various preapproved processes on our benches within the BION facility.

No HF processes should be performed in the chemical wet etch bench in the BION until further notice.

Thanks,
Jake

All of the benches are now back online.

Thanks,
INRF Staff

Hello,

There is some work being performed on the roof of CaliT that could effect the exhaust in the BION. If using the hoods, please pay special attention to the exhaust alarms.

Thanks,
INRF Staff

Hello,

We have recently added a new feature to the INRF website that will include a Facilities Maintenance Calender for upcoming building maintenance/HVAC shutdowns & Fire alarm testing. You can see it on the right hand side of the page listed below.

Thanks,
INRF Staff

EH&S has scheduled fire alarm testing for Engineering Gateway on Tuesday, 3/26/13, from 6am to 7am.  The building air handlers, exhaust and fumehoods will shutdown during the testing.

The INRF & BION Facility will be closed from 12/24/12 – 1/1/13 and for safety reasons only super users with Jake’s authorization may use the facility during this time.

Happy Holidays!
INRF Staff

We were informed that exhaust fan #4 on the roof is down and HVAC is working to get it back up. If you notice anything strange in the cleanroom (hood alarms, ect…) please let staff know right away, we are not sure what this fan is connected to.

Equipment Status:
  • We are still experiencing problems with the K&S 780 dicing saw. We will be sending the camera system and mixing box out for evaluation and repair. We should have it back sometime next week.
  • Still working on the critical point dryer and talking with their service department to determine why its consistently leaking CO2.
  • The Oreole flood exposure is still experiencing a power supply problem.
  • We’ve completed the ALD system and are planning a test run before the end of the week.
  • Tested out wet oxidation system. A short in gas panel has been repaired and the system is working again.
  • Worked on IM milling, replaced the emissions element and are planning a test run to verify system is operating properly.

Safety Topic:
We experienced an incident Tuesday afternoon. A user may have been exposed to HF due to another user improperly blowing dry an object outside the safety hood.
Users are reminded: Any work within the acid rooms should be performed inside the hood and directed away from yourself and others. If a user is not sure of a procedure, contact staff before proceeding. Users be aware, if involved in any safety incident to notify staff immediately no matter how small so we can take action.

Thanks,
INRF Staff
