Message from Facilities:
As you are aware we are experiencing some humidity control issues at the BION facility.
The humidifiers have been working fine for several months now but two weeks ago we started to experience unexplained failures.
Since we have never had any official training on these units I contracted with the factory representative to come out to repair the units and provide training. They will be out Tuesday of next week.
The OSA RH has been very low for the last couple of days which has compounded the problem but forecast higher humidity will offer some relief.
We thank you for your patience,
INRF/BION Staff
From Facilities:
The failed cooling fan on the VFD has been replaced and the system is operating normally.
The benches are now back open for use. Continue to keep an eye out for any alarms in case this should happen again in the future.
Thanks,
INRF/BION Staff
From Facilities:
One of the two exhaust fans dedicated to the acid benches tripped off yesterday due to excessive heat in one of the variable frequency drives.
The system did not go down completely but one fan is unable to maintain the exhaust plenum set point, hence the bench alarms.
This should be considered and unforeseen equipment failure.
The trouble fan VFD was reset, is running, and is maintaining set point.
We are in the process of ascertaining the cause of the trip and should have an answer for you before noon.
As of now the wet process rooms will be tagged out until we get the “all clear”. We will keep you updated.
NOTE: This is a reminder to always pay attention to the hood alarms and/or any warning signs and to stop your process ASAP. Luckily the users knew what to do and no one was hurt.
Thanks,
INRF/BION Staff
The INRF Air Handler (#7) will be shutdown at 6am on Thursday, 9/26/13, for the entire day and will be back up at the end of the day on 9/26/13.
The INRF cleanroom will remain open, but please know that the temperature and humidity in the cleanroom will be affected and could cause equipment to be out of specifications. The photo area will be most affected, so it’s in your best interest to schedule any photo work tomorrow or Friday.

Lab Activity Report 8-12-13
The FM Plumbers are implementing a fix to the BiON humidifiers this Thursday morning 8/8/2013. In order to do so the Industrial water which currently feeds those humidifiers, and the lab hoods and general taps needs to be shutoff. The humidifiers themselves will be offline for several hours as the reroute the soft water. We anticipate it will be back online approximately 10:00am.
Thanks,
