There are 2 levels of membership at MF3:

1) Corporate (Large Company) Membership:

Corporate Members have a seat on the Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) that votes on which core research projects will be funded, and they participate in semi-annual MF3 research meetings. These members also have electronic access to Executive summaries of all core research, advances, new inventions, and discoveries arising from core research activities with the primary option to negotiate a non-exclusive license of intellectual property (IP) that results from these research projects. (exclusive if fellow members approve). These members also have first-hand interaction with MF3's student/researcher pool, a potential source of technical collaborators as well as interns and future employees.

The Consortium will consider alternate cash/in-kind breakdowns at a Memberís request. The Executive Committee may change the level of support from time to time with at least ninety (90) daysí notice to Corporate Members.

Corporate Members can also provide additional funds to support company-specific research (i.e. "sponsored research"). Terms will be negotiated between the Corporate Member, Principal Investigator(s), and Institutional owner of the facility where the research project will take place. These terms may include the right to negotiate an exclusive license to the IP developed with these funds (within a set time limit). Sponsored research funds do not count towards membership.

2) Small Company Membership:

To qualify for this level, the company must have no more than 50 employees. Small Company members participate in semi-annual MF3 research meetings. They also have electronic access to Executive summaries of all core research, advances, new inventions and discoveries arising from core research activities with the secondary option to negotiate a non-exclusive license of intellectual property (IP) that results from these research projects. These members also have first-hand interaction with MF3's student/researcher pool, a potential source of technical collaborators as well as interns and future employees.

* Should the Consortium fail to use the full in-kind contribution, the corporate member will be invoiced for the balance at the rate of $0.50 in cash per each $1 of unused parts and services.

Government Laboratory and Non-profit Organization:

Government laboratories and non-profit organizations may join MF3 in either of the above categories.
